The Fast Track To Computer Competence

Tired of being left out of the computer revolution? Why not change all that by enlisting in PC Boot Camp? In just six stimulating sessions of a combination of "hands-on practice," lecture, and basic training, you will go from computer novice to computer veteran. There is no faster or easier way to gain the knowledge, "hands-on" experience, and computer survival skills you need for your continued business and professional growth.

Day 1
Know Your Equipment
–An in-depth exploration of today's computer hardware. You will discover what each component does and how each can be important to you. Set Up Your Defenses–Learn the basic survival techniques needed to protect your mission–critical hardware, software, and data–from attack by viruses, human error, and computer life. Master the mouse and the keyboard.  There are more than 50 special-function keys. Learn what each does, and practice using these keys.

Day 2
Explore the Terrain
–Windows XP and Windows Vista are the powerful, all-terrain operating systems you will learn to use to navigate within the computer's landscape. You will learn how to set up and customize your desktop, work with files and file folders, and change Windows settings using the Control Panel.

Day 3
Write to the Troops
–Learn and practice basic word processing skills using the Microsoft Word 2003 word processor. Create, edit, and save a document; use templates and toolbars; apply character, paragraph, and document formatting; set tabs, margin headers, and footers; use proofing tools; address envelopes.  Use spell check, grammar check, thesaurus, dictionary, translation, and other key features of Word.
 

Day 4
Write to the Troops Even More Elegantly
–Learn how to use Advanced Word for Windows techniques, including templates, borders, bullets and numbering. Create and modify tables and perform calculations within a table. Work with graphics, Wordart, and  clipart to design a beautiful, personal letterhead.
 

Day 5
See the World
Using the Internet, you will embark on an exciting journey through cyberspace. Discover power secrets for getting the most from internet browsers. Learn how to get just about anything you want on the Internet–use advanced search techniques to obtain detailed information on any topic, find old friends and make new ones, shop the world for great bargains and unusual products.  Create and use a new G-mail  account to send and receive e-mail, and employ Instant Messaging to talk with family and friends. 
 

Show the WorldLearn the basics of using Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 presentation software to create imaginative, attention-getting slide presentations. Use these presentations for a wide variety of business, education, and recreation purposes. You can even learn how to e-mail your presentations to friends on the Internet.

Day 6
Bean Counting
On the final day of PC Boot Camp you will learn the basics of using Microsoft Excel 2003 spreadsheet software and Access 2003 database software. Learn how to create Excel spreadsheets from scratch for your business and personal finances, how to build formulas and functions to perform statistical calculations within a spreadsheet, and how to use an Access Address Book database to help in preparing your annual greeting card mailings.

PC Boot Camp--Advanced Topics

 This two-day hands-on Advanced Topics training class picks up where the original PC Boot Camp leaves off.  Now you can expand your Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook skills, and master many powerful, advanced techniques. 

Day 1--Microsoft Word

Customize your toolbars by adding tools that you frequently use, and thus speed up your work.
Use the many automation features of Word, such as Styles, Auto Complete, Auto Correct, Macros, and  the Normal template to improve the appearance of your documents and to zip through repetitive tasks.  Using these features you will be able to "type" 300 words a minute or more.
Create custom fill-in forms using advanced tables and form design techniques.
Create multiple sections in documents, and create a different header and footer within each section.
Generate a Table of Contents and an Index in larger documents.
Use Mail Merge to print up personalized form letters and envelopes.

Day 2--Microsoft Excel

.Create formulas that span multiple worksheets and workbooks.

Create advanced and conditional formulas.

Create functions using the Paste Function tool.

Use absolute cell referencing when AutoFilling formulas and functions.

Build advanced statements using the “if” function.

Create and use Pivot Tables  to analyze data.

Lock rows and columns in place when viewing worksheets on the screen.

Hide and unhide columns and rows.

Use Find and Replace to replace data throughout a worksheet.

Use Spell Check to find spelling errors in cell labels.

Name cell ranges and use range names in formulas and printing.

Create Excel templates.

Day 2--Microsoft Outlook

Manage inbound and outbound e-mail.
Maintain address books, calendars, task lists, and journals.
Synchronize data between Outlook and your Pocket PC or other PDA.

PC Boot Camp Express

This is a shortened and more relaxed version of the full PC Boot Camp. It is designed to give you the essential skills you need to use the computer. . . for fun, in the pursuit of hobbies, and for taking care of personal business. (It sure helps too when trying to keep up with the grandkids!) Remember, it’s never too late to begin enjoying the wide range of benefits that a computer can offer.

Here, in just two relaxed-pace weekends of hands-on training, you will go from a computer novice to someone who’s comfortable and competent with a computer. There is no faster or easier way to get from here to there!

Day 1
